Whether leaving the house for a few hours or a few days, there is no better method for reducing costs for heating and/or cooling than simply shutting the system off.
What You Need to Do

Locate the heating and/or cooling system controller (whether it be manual, thermostat or programmable thermostat), familiarize yourself with the proper method of shut-down and make it a habit to shut off the system when leaving the house.
